Fords Go 1-1 on First Day at Seven Sisters Tournament
SWARTHMORE, PA - Haverford split a pair of
games in the first day of competition at the Seven Sisters Field
Hockey Tournament on Saturday afternoon, held at Swarthmore College.
Haverford lost the first game of the day, 3-2, to Mount Holyoke
in overtime, but won its second game of the day against Bryn Mawr,
2-0.
The Fords saw themselves down in game one, 1-0,
until junior attack Sarah Walker scored a goal off a pass from
sophomore Sarah Graves to tie the score at one a piece. Haverford
then took a 2-1 lead when senior attack Abby Scattergood recorded
a goal with 9:57 remaining in the second half. With no time remaining
on the clock, Mount Holyoke scored on a penalty corner to send
the game into overtime. Holyoke won the game, 3-2, with 4:17 remaining
in the first overtime period. Mount Holyoke's Jaimie Macari had
two goals in the game, including the game-tying and game-winning
goals.
Haverford (3-2 overall) defeated Bryn Mawr in the
second game of the day, 2-0. Walker scored the game-winning goal,
her second of the tournament, off a pass from Katie Norton with
31:10 left in the second half. Junior attack Colleen Farrell added
an insurance goal for the Fords with 5:51 left in the second half
off a pass from senior attack Jen Chu. Freshman goalkeeper Grace
Bundens made two saves in the win. Haverford out shot Bryn Mawr
by a 23-2 margin.
Haverford will continue play in the Seven Sisters
Tournament, at Swarthmore, on Sunday.
