HAVERFORD, PA - Haverford College sophomore
attack Zoe Lloyd along with junior attack Colleen Farrell each
scored a goal, but it was not enough as visiting Centennial Conference
foe Franklin & Marshall defeated the Fords, 5-2, Friday afternoon.
The Diplomats improved to 1-6 overall and 1-0 in Centennial play,
while the Fords slipped to 3-4 and 0-2.
Franklin & Marshall came out firing out of the gates, as Lindsey
Mummert and Brenna Dolphin netted goals for the Diplomats in the
first 22:42 of play. Lloyd's goal 27:57 into the first half cut
the Franklin & Marshall lead to 2-1 at the half. Diplomats
senior midfielder Maggie Onasch scored what proved to be the game-winning
goal 8:57 into the second half off a penalty corner, giving F&M
the 3-1 advantage. F&M midfielder Jessica Mancino scored the
Diplomats fourth goal of the game off a pass from Dolphin with
13:02 remaining. The Diplomats added another insurance goal 2:12
later as Dolphin scored her second goal of the contest. Colleen
Farrell rocketed a shot past F&M goalkeeper Jennifer Burdo
with 2:34 remaining to pull the Fords within 5-2. But it was too
little too late as F&M held on for the 5-2 victory.
Freshman goalkeeper Grace Bundens made seven
saves in the loss for Haverford, while Burdo made four stops for
F&M.
The Fords return to action on Tuesday for a 7:00
p.m. game at Centennial Conference opponent Muhlenberg.
