Graves Helps Haverford Bury Cabrini, 2-1
RADNOR, PA - Sophomore defender Sarah Graves
scored one goal and assisted on another as visiting Haverford
College defeated Cabrini, 2-1, in non-conference field hockey
action Wednesday afternoon at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
Graves scored the first goal of the game, unassisted,
with 26:37 remaining in the first half. One minute and thirty
three seconds later, and only nine minutes and 57 seconds into
the contest, the Fords recorded their second goal of the game
which came off the stick of junior attack Sarah Walker. Graves
was credited with the assist on Haverford's second goal.
Cabrini (2-4 overall) responded quickly with a goal
of its own with just over 21 minutes remaining in the first half.
However with their consistent offensive pressure and a sturdy
defensive effort, the Fords (2-1) held off the Cavaliers over
the final 56 minutes to earn the 2-1 victory.
Freshman goalkeeper Grace Bundens made five saves
in the cage to earn her second win of the season, while Cabrini
goalkeeper Elissa Salantri made 12 saves in the losing effort.
Haverford out shot Cabrini by a margin of 24-10.
Defensive corners were almost even, as Haverford had seven to
Cabrini's six.
With today's victory, the Fords have now won two
straight games for the first time since they opened the 2003 season
with back-to-back victories over Goucher and Washington &
Jefferson.
The Fords return to action this Saturday and Sunday
at the 2006 Seven Sisters Field Hockey Tournament, hosted by Swarthmore.
Haverford's first game of the weekend will be on Saturday at 9
a.m. against Mt. Holyoke.
