Farrell and Scattergood Lead Haverford Past Bryn Mawr, 3-2
BRYN MAWR, PA - Senior midfielder Abby Scattergood
and junior attack Colleen Farrell each recorded a goal and an
assist, leading visiting Haverford College past Centennial Conference
opponent Bryn Mawr, 3-2, Thursday afternoon in field hockey action.
The Fords improved their overall record to 6-7 and 2-5 in Centennial
play, while the Owls fell to 2-13 and 0-8.
Haverford scored two of its three goals in the first
half. Junior attack Sarah Walker opened the scoring with a goal
from Scattergood 12:38 into play. Scattergood then added a tally
7:09 later off an assist by Farrell. After the halftime break,
Farrell added an goal of her own, unassisted, 2:14 into the second
half. Bryn Mawr's Amy Johnson scored two goals in a span of 2:05
late in the second half, however Haverford sophomore goalie Sarah
Graves, along with the rest of the Fords defense, were able to
hold on over the final 4:31 of regulation for the 3-2 victory.
Graves made five saves in the cage for Haverford in the win.
Haverford's win this afternoon marks the tenth straight victory
the Fords have earned over the Owls. Haverford field hockey has
not lost to Bryn Mawr since a 2-1 defeat on October 20, 1998.
Scattergood now leads the Fords with six goals and three assists
for 15 points on the season. Farrell is second on the team in
scoring with six goals and two assists for 14 points, while Walker
is third with five goals and no assists for ten points.
Haverford will return to action on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. game
at Centennial opponent McDaniel.
