Men's Fencing End Season Undefeated in MACFA Dual Meets;
Women Fencers Finish Third at EWFC Championships
The Haverford men's fencing team completed its MACFA season with
an overall record of 14-0 in dual meets after going a perfect
4-0 against NJIT, Hunter, Stevens and Yeshiva. This is the first
season in program history that the Fords have gone unbeaten in
MACFA dual meet competition. Meanwhile, the women placed third
at the Eastern Women’s Fencing Conference Championships
this weekend with a 3-2 record.
Haverford's men's fencers shut out NJIT 27-0, which was followed
up by a 25-2 win against Hunter, an 18-9 win over Stevens and
a 23-4 defeat of Yeshiva. Senior Colin Sullivan went a perfect
12-0 on Sunday in epee with sophomore Max Rosen-Long putting together
an 8-1 effort in foil. As a team, the Fords went a combined 11-1
in all three weapons on the day with the only loss coming on a
narrow 5-4 defeat in foil against Stevens.
The men's team will look to continue its season-long success in
the MACFA when they travel to Drew on February 25 for the MACFA
Championships.
Senior captain Heather Rozjabek and junior Halli Melnitsky led
the women's fencers to a third place finish at the EWFC Championship.
Rozjabek went 14-1 in foil while Melnitsky went 12-1 in sabre
at the Championship. Freshman Emma Buckingham and sophomores Vanessa
Pena and Melanie Preston starred in epee for Haverford. Buckingham
went a combined 12-3 while Pena and Preston went 9-6 in the Championship.
Junior Dana Litowitz also starred for the Fords in sabre, putting
together a 9-5 record.
The EWFC Individual Championships will be held at Stevens on February
25.
