Fords Stick Competition at Home Tournament
HAVERFORD, PA - The Haverford men's fencing
team went a perfect 6-0 while the women fencers compiled a 3-2
record at the Haverford fencing round robin Sunday afternoon.
Senior Heather Rozjabek went a perfect 15-0 at foil on the day
to lead the women's fencers, while the men's fencers went a combined
6-0 in foil and 5-1 in sabre and epee as a team on the day. The
one day event featured top fencing programs throughout the east
coast, including Virginia Tech, Vassar, Maryland, Virginia, and
William & Mary.
The Haverford men's fencers handily defeated all of their opponents.
Haverford opened with a 24-3 victory over Virginia Tech, followed
by a its narrowest win over Vassar, 16-11. The University of Virginia
was no match for Haverford, as the Fords scored perfect 9-0 wins
in Epee and Sabre en route to a 24-3 win. Haverford closed out
the afternoon with wins over William & Mary and Maryland,
and St. John's (Md.) besting those teams 18-9, 17-10, and 25-2,
respectively.
On the women's side, Haverford opened its 3-2 day with a 16-11
win over Virginia Tech, which included an impressive 8-1 victory
at Epee. The Fords couldn't escape Vassar, dropping their first
match of the day, 18-9. Haverford, once again led by two 9-0 victories
at Epee, cruised to 16-11 and 17-10 wins over Maryland and Virginia
before dropping its final meeting of the day to the United States
Military Academy, 17-8.
Both teams will next square off at home against North Carolina,
Johns Hopkins and Duke on January 20, 2007.
