Bears Best Fords, 74-61;
Lattisaw Collects Second Double-Double of Season
COLLEGEVILLE, PA - Host Ursinus defeated Haverford, 74-61, Tuesday
evening in Centennial Conference women’s basketball action.
Haverford sophomore forward Brittany Lattisaw registered 14 points
and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds for her second double-double
performance of the season. The loss drops Haverford’s overall
record to 3-12 on the season and 2-8 in Centennial play. Ursinus improves
to 9-7 and 6-4 with the win.
Ursinus led by as many as seven points, 24-17, with 8:30 left in the
first half. Down 28-22 with 6:50 remaining in the first frame, Haverford
rallied with a 10-0 run over a 3:35 span. The Fords run was capped
off by three-pointers from sophomore guards Kathleen Abels and Caroline
Feldman. Haverford took a 34-32 lead into the locker room at the half.
The Fords had their best shooting performance from the floor in a
half this season, making 48.3% of their shots in the first period.
The Bears roared back in the early stages of the second half. Ursinus
started the period on a 7-0 run to re-take the lead, 39-34. Lattisaw
stopped the bleeding with a jumper in the paint to make the score
39-36 in the Bears favor with just over 17:00 to play. Haverford rallied
again to pull within one point, 41-40, but Ursinus went on a 13-1
run to increase its lead up to twelve points at 54-42 with 9:45 left.
The Bears would not let the Fords back into the game, cruising to
the 74-61 victory.
Abels tied a season-high with 15 points in the game. Senior guard
Abby Scattergood scored a team-high 16 points and dished out a season-high
eight assists for Haverford in the losing effort.
Ursinus was led by Mary Kate Daley, who tied a career-high with 27
points while pulling down eight rebounds. Bears guard Sarah Hennessey
added 18 points while Carolyn Konstanzer registered 14 points and
seven rebonds in the win.
Ursinus was able to pull off the victory despite Haverford shooting
a season-best 45.5% from the floor in the game.
The Bears out rebounded the Fords by a 38-28 margin in the game. Haverford
committed 23 turnovers while Ursinus turned the ball over 18 times.
