Fords Ground Garnet, 73-46;
Cram Registers Career-High 17 Points in Win

SWARTHMORE, PA - Haverford freshman forward Sara Cram registered a career-high 17 points and grabbed five rebounds to lift visiting Haverford past rival host Swarthmore, 73-46, Wednesday evening in Centennial Conference women’s basketball action. The Fords defense forced 23 turnovers and held the Garnet to just 26.8% shooting in the game. Haverford improves to 3-10 overall and 2-6 in the Centennial, while Swarthmore falls to 4-11 and 1-9.

The Fords and Garnet fought an even battle over the first 11 minutes of the game. Down 14-13, the Fords went on a 14-3 run to pull ahead, 27-17 with 4:30 left in the first half. Swarthmore closed to within six points, 27-21, after senior Jess Fuhr hit two free throws with 4:00 left. Haverford was able to extend its lead back to ten points, outscoring Swarthmore 10-6 in the final four minutes of the period, taking a 37-27 advantage into the locker room. Haverford shot 40.6% from the field in the first half and committed only seven turnovers, while Swarthmore shot 32.3% while turning the ball over ten times.

Haverford opened the second half with a 14-3 run over the first five minutes, extending its lead to 54-30. Sophomore guard Kathleen Abels had eight points, including two three-pointers over that stretch. Haverford’s defensive presence was shown in the second half, as Haverford held Swarthmore to 20% shooting from the field in the second half, cruising to the 73-46 win.

Berk led all players with a season-high 25 points along with 15 rebounds in the game, good for her 12th double-double of the season. Berk scored the Garnet’s first 12 points of the game, and has now registered double-digit scoring performances in 18 straight games.

In addition to Cram’s 17 points, the Fords had three other players tally double-digit point totals. Senior guard Abby Scattergood had 15 points in the game, while sophomore forward Brittany Lattisaw and Abels had 12 and 11 points, respectively. Senior forward Kate Wettstein grabbed a season-high ten rebounds for Haverford in the win.


Haverford shot 40.3% from the field in the game, including 43.8% (7-of-16) from beyond the arc.


The win snaps a 17-game Haverford losing streak against Swarthmore. Prior to tonight, the Fords last bested the Garnet 57-45 back in 1998. Haverford's 73 points as a team are a season-high.


The Fords return to action on Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. home game against Franklin & Marshall. Swarthmore will play host to Ursinus on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
