McDaniel Edges Haverford, 69-60
WESTMINSTER, MD - Host McDaniel defeated visiting Haverford,
69-60, Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference women's basketball
action. Haverford sophomore forward Brittany Lattisaw registered
her third straight double-digit point and rebound performance with
16 points on 7-of-12 shooting and a game-high 12 rebounds. The win
improves the Green Terror's record to 16-2 overall and 10-1 in Centennial
play, while the Fords fall to 4-13 and 3-9.
The Fords kept pace with the Green Terror early on, taking a 13-9
lead after sophomore center Natalie Richman hit a jump shot in the
paint with 14:45 left in the first half. After Richman's jumper,
McDaniel stormed back to take the lead with a 10-2 run over the
next 6:15. The Green Terror closed out the final 6:30 of the half
with a 9-4 run, taking a 33-25 advantage into the locker room.
Haverford came out firing in the second half, closing its deficit
to one point after sophomore guard Kathleen Abels converted a three-point
play. Abels followed up on Haverford's next possession after a defensive
stop with a three-pointer to give the Fords their first lead since
the opening basket. Down 46-45 with 10:33 left, McDaniel went on
a 9-0 run over the next 5:25 to take a 54-46 lead. Haverford pulled
to within four points at 54-50, but McDaniel was able to control
the clock and find open looks to edge out Haverford in the end,
69-60.
Haverford senior guard Abby Scattergood tied a team-high with 16
points and dished out a game-high eight assists. Abels finished
the afternoon with 12 points and six rebounds in the Fords losing
effort.
McDaniel guard Katie Powell scored a game-high 18 points while forward
Heather Thompson added 17 points in the win. Green Terror senior
center Theresa Hess also had ten points and a team-high ten rebounds.
The Green Terror out rebounded the Fords by a 48-35 margin, and
went to the charity stripe 30 times to the Fords 20 attempts from
the line in the game.
Haverford will host Centennial opponent Muhlenberg on Tuesday evening
