BALTIMORE, MD – Visiting Haverford College
(2-9 overall, 1-5 Centennial) and host Johns Hopkins (7-4, 5-1) played
an even first half, however, Hopkins out scored Haverford 45-25 in
the second half en route to a 69-49 Tuesday evening in Centennial
Conference women’s basketball action.
Haverford opened the game with a 5-0 run over the first three minutes,
capped off by an offensive rebound and put back by sophomore center
Natalie Richman. Hopkins battled back to take a 8-7 lead with 13:10
remaining in the first half, but the Fords went on a 12-1 run over
the next 6:30 to take their largest lead of the contest at 19-9. Haverford’s
offense stalled over the next 2:17, as the Blue Jays flew back with
a 10-0 run over the next 2:17 to tie the game at 19 a piece. Both
teams kept pace with each other throughout the rest of the half, as
the score at the break was knotted at 24.
The start of the second half proved to be the difference in the game,
as the Blue Jays started out the period on a 15-4 run over the first
seven minutes. Hopkins led by as many as 20 points mid way through
the half, cruising to the 69-49 victory.
Haverford was led by senior guard Abby Scattergood's game-high six
assists and team-highs of 14 points and five rebounds. Sophomore forward
Brittany Lattisaw scored 11 points and also had three steals for the
Fords. Hopkins was led by Kristin Phillips game-high 20 points and
ten rebounds, along with Andrea Dodrill's 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting.
The Fords shot 39% in the first half and 27.6% in the second half,
while the Blue Jays shot 27% in the first half and 62.1% in the second.
Hopkins committed 23 turnovers in the game while Haverford turned
the ball over 21 times in the contest.
Haverford will return to action at Centennial foe Gettysburg Saturday
at 4:00 p.m. for its second meeting of the season. The Fords dropped
their first contest against the Bullets, 73-64, at home on December
9th.
