Dips Down Fords, 68-58

LANCASTER, PA – Host Franklin & Marshall (2-3, 1-1) got 15 points and a game-high 24 rebounds from junior Brittany Braxton en route to a 68-58 victory over visiting Haverford (0-2, 0-2) Wednesday evening in Centennial Conference women’s basketball action. Sophomore forward Brittany Lattisaw led the way for Haverford, registering 11 points and a team-high 15 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.

The Diplomats and Fords battled neck and neck throughout most of the first half. The Fords took an early 10-5 edge after Lattisaw hit a free throw following a three-point basket by senior guard Abby Scattergood. The Diplomats then went on a 14-5 run to go up 19-14 midway through the first period. Freshman Sara Cram drained a three-pointer with 6:37 left in the half to cut the F&M lead to one point, however, that’s the closest Haverford would get in the half as F&M took a 36-30 into the locker room at the half.

Haverford overcame its deficit, going on an 11-4 run over the first 4:10 of the second half to take a 41-40 lead. However, the Diplomats went on a 14-5 run of their own midway through the period to take full control of the game en route to the 68-58 win.

Scattergood paced the Fords offense with a team-high 17 points and four steals, along with four assists and four rebounds. Cram tallied 13 points and seven rebounds, while Lattisaw added four assists and two blocks to her double-double performance.

Franklin & Marshall got a game-high 23 point performance on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor from Sarah Meisenberg, as well as a 15 point effort from Miriam Marcis. Braxton's 24 rebounds tie the Centennial Conference record for rebounds in a women's basketball game.

F&M held Haverford to 27.9% shooting in the second half, and 32.9% for the game, while the Dips shot 44.6% in the contest. The Fords defense forced 25 Diplomat turnovers. Haverford committed 18 turnovers in the game.

Haverford will host the annual Seven Sisters Tournament, and will open Seven Sisters play against Smith on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
