Red Devils Best Fords, 80-52, in Season Opener
HAVERFORD, PA Visiting Dickinson College used a 20-0 run over
a 10:30 span in the first half en route to an 80-52 victory over host
Haverford College in both squads Centennial Conference women’s
basketball opener Tuesday evening. Haverford freshman forward Sara
Cram made an impressive collegiate debut for the Fords, registering
12 points while collecting seven rebounds in the loss.
Haverford senior guard Abby Scattergood scored the first two points
of the contest, however, Dickinson responded by going on a 20-0 run
over the next 10:30 to take full control of the game. In their 20-0
run, Dickinson forced ten Haverford turnovers and held the Fords to
0-for-9 shooting.
Down 22-2, Haverford went on an 8-0 run over the next three plus minutes,
highlighted by three-point baskets from Scattergood and Cram, to pull
within 22-10 with 6:46 left in the first half. The game held steady
until the half, with Dickinson leading 32-17 at the break. In the
first half, the Red Devils forced 18 Haverford turnovers and held
the Fords to 30% shooting.
Dickinson started the second half much like the first, pressing the
Fords on both ends of the ball. However, this time Haverford was able
to adjust to the press and even retaliated with a press of its own
early in the period. Even though the Haverford defense held Dickinson’s
offense to no significant runs early on in the second half, the first
half deficit was too much for the Fords to overcome as Dickinson was
able to pace itself to the 80-52 victory.
The Fords offense was mainly paced by Cram and sophomore forward Brittany
Lattisaw, who totaled game-highs with 20 points and eight rebounds.
Scattergood finished with ten points, three rebounds and two assists
for Haverford before fouling out late in the second half.
The Red Devils were led by Allyson Teatom, who recorded a game-high
17 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor. Dickinson guard Laura
Houseal had 15 points and collected a team-high seven rebounds, while
Piper Etess and Brooke Muller reached double-digit scoring totals
with ten points each.
Haverford is off until after the Thanksgiving break. The women’s
basketball team will return to action on Wednesday, November 29th
with a 7:00 p.m. tip-off against Centennial Conference opponent Franklin
& Marshall.
