Tigers Tame Fords, 71-53
THOUSAND OAKS, CA - Colorado College shot 44.4% from the field en
route to a 71-53 victory over Haverford College Wednesday evening
in the consolation game of the Posada Royale Tournament, hosted by
California Lutheran. Sophomore guard Caroline Feldman scored a career-high
nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from three-point range for the Fords
in the loss.
The Fords and Tigers battled closely over the first 13 minutes of
the game, with the lead changing hands often early on. Up 17-14 with
7:48 to play in the first half, Colorado closed out the half with
a 16-7 run to take a 33-21 lead into the locker room. The first half
deficit proved to be too much for Haverford to overcome, as Colorado
paced itself in the second half to the 71-53 win.
Freshman forward Sara Cram contributed a team-high 11 points while
grabbing three rebounds. Sophomore Brittany Lattisaw swatted away
a game-high four shots, and is currently second in the Centennial
Conference with 19 blocks on the season. Lattisaw also grabbed a team-high
nine rebounds in the game. Sophomore guard Kathleen Abels also had
nine points in the loss.
The Tigers had five players register double figure point totals. Paige
Whitney had game-highs of 19 points and 13 rebounds in the Colorado
victory.
Colorado held a 62-39 rebounding advantage in the game. Haverford
tied a season best, committing only 13 turnovers in the game to the
Tigers 16. Both teams shot poorly from the charity stripe. The Tigers
converted 6-of-18 (33.3%) free throw attempts, while the Fords only
sunk 5-of-16 (31.3%) of their shots from the free throw line.
Haverford (2-7 overall, 1-3 Centennial) will look for its second Centennial
Conference victory of the season at Muhlenberg on Saturday at 4:00
p.m.
