HAVERFORD -- Ray Brown, Jason Polykoff
and Adam Howland scored 14, 13 and 12 points, respectively, but
Haverford could not overcome 11-point deficits in each half to
avoid its first season series sweep by Swarthmore since 2000-01.
The Fords (10-14, 8-10), who pulled
to within two points four times in the final 9:15, came into the
game deflated as their playoff hopes had been dashed by Muhlenberg's
74-70 upset of first-place Ursinus earlier in the day.
Aaron Heath tied his career-high with
eight points and Johnny Elefterakis (game-high nine rebounds)
tied Polykoff with a game-high four assists in the final game
in the careers of the three senior Haverford guards.
Ian McCormick and Matt Kurman led the
Garnet (5-20, 4-14) with 18 and 12 points, respectively.
The game was the 151st in the series
between the two ancient rivals, who have met at least once in
men's basketball every winter since 1919-20, except for the 1943-44
season. Swarthmore leads the all-time series, 89-62.
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. Mike McGarvey
scored a game-high 24 points and dished out nine assists to lead
Ursinus past Haverford in Centennial Conference men’s basketball
action on Wednesday.
McGarvey went 8-for-13 from the floor
and connected on six three-pointers to help the Bears (19-5, 15-2
CC) clinch top seed and home-court advantage for the conference
playoffs on Feb. 25-26.
Johnny Elefterakis scored 14 of his
team-high 18 points in the first half to lead the Fords (10-13,
8-9 CC), while Jason Polykoff added 10. After Ursinus scored 10
straight points to pull away from a 7-7 start, Elefterakis hit
two straight treys to make the score 17-14. After a pair of Ursinus
layups, Elefterakis and Adam Howland (nine points) answered with
three-pointers to stay within reach, but the Bears outscored the
Fords, 17-7, down the stretch for a 42-29 lead at intermission.
Haverford must now defeat Swarthmore
on Saturday for a chance to clinch the fifth-seed for the Centennial
Conference playoffs, or hope for losses by both Muhlenberg and
Franklin & Marshall to guarantee their first-round date at
fourth-seed Washington (Md.) next Wednesday.
HAVERFORD -- Senior guard Johnny Elefterakis
scored 28 points on 6-of-13 three-point shooting and went over
the 500-assist mark for his career as Haverford (10-12, 8-8) kept
alive its hope for a third straight Centennial Conference playoff
appearance with its win over Dickinson Saturday.
Elefterakis entered the game with 498
assists and now has 503. His 28 points were one shy of his career-high
29 set last year at Ursinus.
Junior Ray Brown added a career-high
26 points and game-high nine rebounds for the Fords, who also
got 17 points and career-highs of 10 assists and six steals from
senior Jason Polykoff.
Dickinson (5-18, 3-13), which trailed
by only 48-44 at the half, was led by Mike Geosits and Kizmahr
Grell with 16 and 13 points, respectively.
HAVERFORD -- Senior guard Johnny Elefterakis
and freshman forward Adam Howland scored 20 points each Wednesday
evening as Haverford rallied for a key victory in the chase for
the Centennial Conference playoffs.
With the win, the Fords (9-12, 7-8)
remain tied for the fifth and final playoff berth with Muhlenberg.
Howland scored 10 of his career-high
20 points in his first six minutes off the bench as the host Fords
recovered from an early 15-6 deficit to trail by only two points,
41-39, at the half. The Shoremen (10-12, 8-7) had enjoyed the
early advantage as junior Joey Breslin scored 20 of his Gooding
Arena-record 32 points before halftime.
Jason Polykoff scored eight of his 13 points in the second half
and put Haverford ahead to stay, 50-48, on a layup with 13:49
remaining. He ended the night with nine assists, six rebounds
and four steals and joined Ray Brown (11 points) and David Nowacki
(10 points) in double-figure scoring. Nowacki tied fellow freshman
Ben McDowell (eight points) for the team-high with eight rebounds.
Jonathan Webb (15 points) and Kyle
Stem (10 points) each grabbed 10 rebounds for Washington, which
could get no closer in the waning moments than three points, 74-71,
on a Stem free throw with 3:06 left.
HAVERFORD -- Ray Brown scored 21 points
and Jason Polykoff added 16 for Haverford, but host Johns Hopkins
overpowered its Centennial Conference guest with 62-percent shooting
from the field (29-of-47) and 24-of-32 free-throw shooting Saturday.
Brown and fellow starters Ben McDowell
(seven points) and Johnny Elefterakis (six points) all fouled
out for the Fords (8-12, 6-8), who trailed by just 30-28 on an
Adam Howland (10 points) basket with four minutes left in the
first half.
Matt Griffin and Jeff Thompson scored
21 and 20 points, respectively, for the Blue Jays (16-4, 12-2),
who enjoyed a 38-15 rebounding advantage while retaining their
share of first-place in the league.
ALLENTOWN -- Jason Polykoff and Ray Brown scored
13 and 12 points, respectively, for Haverford Wednesday night.
The Fords (8-11, 6-7) also got six assists from Johnny Elefterakis,
raising the all-time Haverford leader in that category's career
total to 493.
Jeff Stewart recorded game-highs of 24 points and 13 rebounds

jumped out to a 49-28 lead at intermission and shot over 50-percent
in each half .

21 points and Ben McDowell added 16 as Haverford erased a 17-point
first-half deficit and rolled to victory over non-conference visitor
Stevens Monday night.
David Nowacki (14 points) and Johnny
Elefterakis (11 points) joined Polykoff in grabbing four steals
among the Fords' total of 14 thefts. Elefterakis' fourth assist
of the game to Ray Brown (10 points) five minutes in the second
half gave the Fords (8-10) their first lead since the opening
minutes, 47-45, and tied him for the college's career assist record.
Elefterakis fed Polykoff for a layup two minutes later to break
a 49-all tie and set a new Haverford career record of 487 assists,
surpassing the 486 by Jamal Elliott between 1993-96.
Waleed Farid led Stevens (10-9) by
scoring 16 of his game-high 22 in the first half as the Ducks
built a 40-23 lead. The Fords closed to a 45-37 halftime deficit
behind six points from Nowacki and five from McDowell in the last
4:04 of the half. Farid pulled down 15 rebounds, including nine
on the offensive glass, as the Ducks outrebounded their hosts,
53-40, for the game. Stephen Peters was Stevens' other big contributor
with 11 points and eight rebounds.
HAVERFORD -- Senior point guard Johnny
Elefterakis hit 6-of-10 three-point attempts and dished out five
assists to pull within four of the Haverford career assist record
as the Fords blistered Centennial Conference visitor McDaniel
Saturday afternoon.
Mike Fratangelo, Jason Polykoff (five
assists), Brent Anderson and Ray Brown added 16, 12, 11 and 10
points, respectively, for Haverford (7-10, 6-6). Ben McDowell

Terror (6-13, 4-8).
HAVERFORD -- Sophomore Nick Shattuck
scored a game-high 29 points and junior Matt Fabian added a game-high
14 rebounds and 12 points, including a decisive pair of free throws
with 4.4 seconds left, as first-place Ursinus escaped with a Centennial
Conference victory Wednesday evening at Haverford.
Senior Mike McGarvey added 18 points
and five assists for the Bears (14-4, 10-1), whose hopes nearly
perished when senior Brian McEvily missed two free throws with
5.8 ticks left, after which Fabian got the rebound and was fouled.
Jason Polykoff (26 points, seven assists)
had given Haverford (6-10, 5-6) an 86-85 lead on his own successful
pair of foul shots with 14 seconds remaining. Polykoff and fellow
senior Johnny Elefterakis (18 points, 10 assists) hit on 6-of-11
and 5-of-14 three-point attempts among the hosts' school-record
15-of-34 shooting night beyond the arc. Fords freshman Brent Anderson
added a career-high 10 points in his most significant outing to
date.

as visiting Swarthmore recovered from an early deficit to earn
a Centennial Conference win at Haverford Wednesday evening.

half, then pulled away from a 22-18 halftime lead to lead, 29-21,
five minutes into the second half.

The Fords (5-7, 4-3) led the entire
game, except for a brief 42-41 deficit with 7:34 to play. McDowell
and Nowacki each scored a basket, and Polykoff and Johnny Elefterakis
(five assists) both made a pair of free throws to put the game
out of reach, 49-42, on eight straight Haverford points over the
next four-and-a-half minutes.
Jon Skvarka led the Red Devils (4-10,
2-5) with 11 points and nine rebounds. Following a 1-for-2 effort
at the line by Polykoff, the Devils had a final shot to tie the
game as they pushed the ball into the front court and were forced
to call a timeout with less than one second on the clock. Skvarka
managed to release a difficult shot before the buzzer, but it
was just off the mark.

The highest-rated Division I opponent
ever visited by Haverford, Bucknell (7-1) is fourth among "Others
Receiving Votes" with 58 points in this week's Associated
Press Top 25 voting, following Saturday's 83-39 drubbing of Cornell.
The Bison also defeated Syracuse and DePaul earlier in the season,
and next host St. Joseph's (Pa.) on Wednesday.
HAVERFORD -- Trailing by 28-18 at halftime
and by 43-25 with 15:39 to go, host Haverford ran off 35 points
