Michael Mucci enters his 13th season at the helm of Haverford's men's basketball team, a program which in recent years has established itself as a playoff contender in the strong Centennial Conference.
Mucci has led the Fords to Centennial Conference playoff appearances in three of the last four seasons, with the 2006-07 team reaching the conference championship. It was only the third time in school history and first since 1977. The 2006-07 senior class left Haverford achieving a winning record versus Conference opponents. Also, in the past three seasons the Fords have had three 1,000-point scorers and the school's all-time career assist leader. Following the 2002-03 season, Mucci earned "Coach of the Year" honors from the Philadelphia Small College Coaches Association. In 1995-96, his first year at Haverford, Mucci guided the senior-laden Fords to their first conference postseason appearance in almost two decades, and to the team's best record in 19 years.
Mucci has 30 years of college coaching experience, including 18 years as a Division I assistant at Villanova, Robert Morris, and Yale. He played a central role in building Yale into one of the most respected Ivy League programs in his 13 years there. While in New Haven, he recruited and coached NBA center Chris Dudley.
Michael Mucci and his wife, Karen Kauffman, a professor at Villanova University, live in Havertown.
Mucci's assistant coach Jim Rowe begins his eighth season with the Fords. He brings experience from his playing and coaching days at Widener University, and he is very involved in scouting, recruiting, and on-court development.
