Brown Leads Haverford Past McDaniel, 60-56;
Grabs Career-High 14 Rebounds
HAVERFORD, PA – Senior forward Ray Brown
grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds and tied a season-high with
21 points to help lift Haverford College past visiting McDaniel,
60-56, Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference men's basketball
action. Haverford improves to 4-7 overall and 3-2 in conference
play with the win, while McDaniel falls to 6-5 and 3-2.
The Fords took a 23-22 lead into the locker room at the half.
Haverford went on a 10-1 run over a 3:29 span to pull ahead, 39-32,
with 12:49 left in the game. McDaniel stormed back, and was able
to take its first lead since the 16:18 minute mark earlier in
the half, at 56-55 with 1:20 remaining. With McDaniel at ten team
fouls, Brown was fouled and hit two free throws to give the Fords
the lead, 57-56, with 22 seconds left on the clock. Over the next
13 seconds, the Green Terror missed a lay up and three consecutive
free throws. Brown was able to pull down the rebound off the last
missed McDaniel free throw, and was fouled. Brown made one of
two attempts from the charity stripe, putting Haverford up 58-56
with seconds left. Green Terror forward Josh McKay traveled in
the lane as he was about to lay the ball into the basket with
one second left, giving the ball back to Haverford. On the inbound
pass, sophomore guard Greg Rosnick was fouled and drained two
free throws to secure the 60-56 Haverford victory.
Sophomore guard Chaz Thomas poured in 12 points while collecting
a team-high three steals for Haverford. Rosnick contributed six
points and seven rebounds while sophomore Ben McDowell had seven
points off the bench in the Fords win. Brown
Free throws proved to be the difference maker in the contest,
as Haverford made 14-of-18 (77.7%) free throw attempts in the
game while McDaniel made 8-of-20 (40.0%) of its attempts from
the charity stripe. The Green Terror out rebounded the Fords by
a 40-36 margin. Haverford turned the ball over 15 times to McDaniel's
14 turnovers. The lead changed hands six different times over
the course of the game. Haverford hung on for the win despite
not scoring from the field over the final 5:42 of the game.
Haverford will travel to Johns Hopkins Tuesday for an 8:00 p.m.
