HAVERFORD, PA - Seniors
Ryan Stephens and Ben Einbinder along with junior Will Stafford
each belted home runs, but visiting Swarthmore was able to salvage
a regular season series split with a 14-8 win over host Haverford
Friday afternoon. Ryan Stephens finished the day a perfect 3-for-3
at the plate with two runs scored. Haverford falls to 15-10 overall
and 6-6 in Centennial Conference play, while Swarthmore improves
to 4-20 and 2-12.
The Garnet opened the scoring with four runs in the top of the first
inning, but the Fords came back with three in the bottom of the
third on back-to-back home runs off the bats of Einbinder and Stephens.
Swarthmore responded with five runs in the fourth and two more scores
in the sixth and three more in the seventh to jump out to a 14-3
advantage. The Fords responded with four runs in the bottom of the
seventh, highlighted by Stafford's two-run home run, to make the
score 14-7. Stafford drove in his third run of the game in the bottom
of the ninth with a sacrifice fly, but that is all the Fords would
get as the Garnet came away with the 14-8 win.
Senior Ben Field, junior Drew Wilcox and freshman Jake Kaden each
contributed two hits in the losing effort for Haverford.
The Fords will travel to Centennial opponent Dickinson on Saturday
for a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader.
