Haverford Falls to Richard Stockton, 3-2
POMONA, NJ - Host Richard Stockton scored the
game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to edge visiting
Haverford, 3-2, Wednesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action.
Haverford senior shortstop and reigning Centennial Conference Player
of the Week Ben Einbinder went 2-for-3 at the plate with two singles
and a run scored to pace the Fords offense. Haverford drops to 8-3
overall on the season while Stockton improves to 9-4.
The Fords fell behind early when the Osprey's plated two unearned
runs off Haverford starting pitcher Travis Zier in the bottom of the
first inning. The game remained at 2-0 until junior outfielder Steve
Andelman drove in Einbinder on a single with two outs in the bottom
of the seventh to make the game 2-1. The Fords rallied in the top
of the ninth when senior third baseman Ryan Stephens drove in senior
catcher Kenny McAlpine on a single to knot the game at two. Haverford
was able to load the bases with one out, but Stockton pitcher John
O'Hara was able to strike out two Fords to end the inning. Stockton
led off the bottom of the ninth with a bunt single off the bat of
Chris Discher. Discher was sacrificed to second and was driven in
on a single through the left side and an error by the Haverford defense.
Zier pitched six-plus innings, allowing two unearned runs and nine
hits while striking out five. Senior pitcher John Castronova tossed
the final 2 1/3 innings, striking out two batters while giving up
one unearned run. Freshman Jake Kaden went 2-for-3 at the plate with
a triple for the Fords, while sophomore outfielder Dean Laganosky
walked twice and stole three bases.
Haverford will return to action on Friday with a 3:00 p.m. non-conference
game at The College of New Jersey.
