Profs Power Past Fords, 22-9;
Einbinder Homers Twice in Loss
HAVERFORD, PA - Senior outfielder Tim Edmeads
blasted three home runs and collected seven runs batted in, while
all eight other starting Rowan starters registered at least one RBI
en route to a 22-9 victory over host Haverford Tuesday afternoon in
a non-conference baseball game. Haverford senior outfielder Ben Einbinder
belted his ninth and tenth home runs in the loss, giving him 34 in
his career. Einbinder is just one home run shy of tying the Centennial
Conference record for career home runs, set by Johns Hopkins John
Crist between 1996-99. Haverford falls to 18-12 overall with the loss,
while Rowan improves to 18-14.
Rowan started the game with two runs in the first off Haverford starting
pitcher Adam Lewis, but the Fords got three back in the bottom of
the second on back-to-back doubles off the bats of seniors Ryan Stephens
and Kenny McAlpine, along with an RBI single off by Jamie Hollowell.
With runners on first and third, Laganosky was able to drive in the
third run on a fielder's choice. The Profs exploded for six runs in
the top of the third, and one run in both the fourth and fifth frames
to take a 10-3 lead. Haverford pulled itself back into the game in
the bottom of the fifth with four runs. Einbinder smashed a two-run
shot while freshman Jake Kaden hit the first home run of his career
after junior Drew Wilcox was hit by a pitch.
Rowan followed with a nine-run sixth inning that saw ten straight
Profs reach base. The Profs completed their offensive onslaught with
one more run in the seventh and two additional runs eighth innings.
Haverford also scored a run in the seventh and eighth innings on a
RBI single by pinch hitter Jeff Lichtstein and Einbinder's second
home run of the game, a solo bomb, in the eighth.
Stephens and sophomore Dean Laganosky each finished with two hits,
while Laganosky stole his CC-leading 27th bag of the season.
Haverford will travel to Drew tomorrow for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference
game.
