HAVERFORD, PA - Visiting
non-conference opponent Gwynedd-Mercy's pitching staff held host
Haverford's electric offense to six hits and two earned runs in
the game en route to a 11-2 win Wednesday afternoon. Freshman first
baseman Chase Kennedy and senior outfielder Ben Einbinder drove
in the only two Haverford runs in the contest. The Fords slip to
12-8 overall while the Griffins improve to 12-8.
Gwynedd-Mercy scored its first two runs of the game in the top of
the first, and tacked on one more in the fourth and three more in
the fifth to take a 7-0 lead. The Fords got two runs back in the
bottom of the sixth on Kennedy's RBI single, driving in shortstop
Jamie Hollowell, and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Einbinder to
plate sophomore Dean Laganosky. The Griffins responded with one
run in the top of the seventh and four more runs in the eighth en
route to the 11-2 win.
Six different Haverford pitchers made appearances in the game, with
four different Fords tossing one inning a piece. Laganosky, junior
Steve Andelman, junior Drew Wilcox and Hollowell each had one hit
for Haverford, while freshman Doug Edelman registered his first
collegiate hit with a single to right field in the eighth inning.
Griffins starting pitcher Sean Middleton earned the win, allowing
five hits and two earned runs in seven innings of work.
Haverford will look to win its second game of the season at Centennial
Conference opponent Ursinus on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
