LANCASTER, PA - Host Franklin & Marshall scored
two runs in the fifth and sixth innings en route to a 4-1 victory
over visiting Haverford Wednesday afternoon in Centennial Conference
baseball action. Senior third baseman Ryan Stephens and freshman first
baseman Robbie Crabtree each registered two hits in the losing effort.
Haverford falls to 11-6 overall and 2-3 in Centennial play with the
loss, while F&M improves to 10-8 and 4-1.
Haverford scored its only run of the game in the top of the second
inning. With two outs, senior catcher Kenny McAlpine singled down
the right field line and advanced to second base on a wild pitch.
After junior Steve Andelman walked, Crabtree singled up the middle
to give Haverford the early 1-0 lead. Senior pitcher Donny Poster
pitched four scoreless innings until Diplomats infielder Jason Anderson
drove in a two-run single in the fifth. F&M added two more insurance
runs in the sixth when Mark Minutaglio hit a two-run home run. F&M
starting pitcher Brad Andres picked up the win, striking out eight
Fords while Dan Tischler closed out the game on the mound. Poster
worked 7 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out
three in the loss.
The Fords will look to even their season series with the Diplomats
at home on Friday with a 3:30 p.m. game.
