Fords Score Ten Over Final Three Innings in 10-7 Route of Rangers
MADISON, NJ - Visiting
Haverford scored ten runs over the final three innings en route
to a 10-7 non-conference baseball victory over host Drew in a rain-shortened,
six inning game Wednesday afternoon. Freshman Robbie Crabtree along
with juniors Drew Wilcox and Jeff Lichtstein each drove in two runs
in the victory. Haverford improves to 19-11 overall with the win,
while Drew slips to 10-21.
The Rangers took an early 2-0 lead with one run in the first and
second innings. Senior catcher Kenny McAlpine and Wilcox led off
the fourth inning with back-to-back singles, and were driven in
on a two-run single off the bat of Crabtree to knot the game at
two. Drew took back the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI
single to push the score to 3-2.
Senior outfielder Ben Field led off the fifth inning with a single
and a stolen base, and freshman Jake Kaden worked a walk to put
two runners on base with no outs. Senior outfielder Ben Einbinder
drove in Field with a single for his 42nd RBI of the season, knotting
the game at three. Einbinder proceeded to steal second, while McAlpine
followed with a walk to load the bases. Wilcox ripped a double,
driving in Kaden and Einbinder to give the Fords a 5-3 lead. Lichtstein
cleared the bases with his first triple of the season to pull Haverford
ahead 7-3. Sophomore outfielder Chris Dooley walked, while freshman
Jeff Rickert drove in Haverford's 8th run on a ground out while
Field singled in Dooley for the Fords' ninth run of the game to
cap off the inning. Poor defense by the Rangers led to Haverford's
tenth run of the game as the bullpen held on for the 10-7 win.
Wilcox finished 2-for-3 for the Fords at the dish with a double,
three runs scored and two RBI. Field and Einbinder each had two
hits with a run scored an a RBI, while McAlpine put together a fine
afternoon, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Lichtstein went 2-for-4
with two RBI and a run scored.
Freshman pitcher Ben Regan-Sachs earned his third win of the season,
tossing the first 5 1/3 innings of the game, striking out three.
Relief pitcher Nat Ballenberg finished the game, retiring the final
two batters.
Haverford will host non-conference opponent Scranton Thursday at
