Haverford Sweeps Carroll;
Fords Extend Winning Streak to Four Games
FORT MYERS, FL - Haverford College (4-1 overall)
extended its winning streak to four games Monday, sweeping Carroll
College of Wisconsin (1-4). The Fords took game one by a 7-4 score
and game two by a 16-7 margin. Haverford freshman pitcher Ben Regan-Sachs
earned his first collegiate win in game one, while Justin Marlowe
won game two on the mound for the Fords.
Regan-Sachs pitched a gem in game one, throwing 6
1/3 innings of the seven inning game, allowing only four hits, four
runs (none earned) while striking out three Pioneers. Haverford
senior pitcher John Castronova came into the game in the seventh
inning to close out the contest. Senior catcher Kenny McAlpine went
2-for-4 at the plate with two triples and two runs scored. Senior
shortstop Ben Einbinder also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double,
two runs batted in and two runs scored.
Marlowe pitched three innings in game two, allowing only one run
to earn his first victory of the season. McAlpine and Einbinder
picked up where they left off in game one, as each player collected
two more hits. McAlpine's 2-for-5 performance in game two included
a double, two runs scored and a run batted in, while Einbinder's
2-for-4 showing at the plate included a triple, two runs scored
and a run batted in. Junior Drew Wilcox went 2-for-2 at the plate
and blasted his first home run of the season, a two-run shot, along
with a double, four RBI and two runs scored. Junior Steve Andelman
added three hits and crossed the plate twice and freshman infielder
Jeff Rickert also scored two runs and contributed two hits in the
Fords blowout win.
Haverford returns to action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. game against
