Season Outlook

Despite the loss of two of their top runners from a season ago the Haverford College women’s cross country team returns a strong cast from last years team that finished second in the conference and the Mideast region. In 2008 the Fords will strive for their 19th consecutive season with a top-10 regional finish and their third NCAA appearance.

The Lineup

All-American Annick Lamar ’08 and Jane Weber ’08 are gone, but there is no lack of talent on the Fords roster this fall. Haverford returns seniors Darian Lunne and Lena Edelstein and sophomores Caitlin Tully and Elizabeth Zoidis. Those four finished 31st or higher at the Centennial Conference Championship and in the top-75 at the NCAA Mideast Regional.

Lunne will look to lead the pack after her first-team All-Centennial Conference performance in 2007. She also finished 20th at the NCAA Mideast Regional. Edelstein had the highest finish (192nd) of any returnee on this year’s team at the 2007 NCAA Championship.

The Schedule
Following their own Alumnae meet, the women harriers will begin their season at the Waynesburg Invitational before hosting Villanova with local rivals Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore thrown in the mix. The 26th place team in the country at last year’s NCAA championship meet, the Fords will look to capture their first Centennial Conference title in 2008 after finishing in the runner-up slot for the eighth consecutive season last fall.
