Zachary Vaslow has been chosen as the captain of the
2006 Haverford men’s cross country team. Varslow will look
to help lead and repeat the team’s success from 2005, when
the Fords had their best finish ever placing third nationally with
118 points and only one point behind 2005 runner-up and 2004 national
champion Calvin’s 117.
Vaslow earned first team All-Centennial Conference
honors and helped lead Haverford to its 10th Centennial Championship
in 13 years of the conference’s existence by finishing fifth
with a time of 26:21. He also placed ninth at the Division III Mideast
Regionals in 26:03.4 before placing 54th in 26:48.7 at the Division
III National Championships. Vaslow amassed four top-ten finishes
over the course of the 2005 season.
Head coach Tom Donnelly’s men’s cross country team has
made 13 consecutive trips to the NCAA’s and 23 total appearances
since 1978. Both streaks rank third in Division III. Donnelly has
also led the Fords to titles in 42 of their last 43 cross country,
indoor and outdoor track conference championships, dating back to
1991.
