Some Common Elements in Doing Music and Physics
Stephon Alexander
After Haverford, Stephon Alexander '93 went on to receive his ph.D in Theoretical Physics (Superstrings and Cosmology) from Brown University in 2000. He is currently an assistant professor of Physics at Penn State University where he focuses on the interface between early universe cosmology and gravitational theory and he won a National Geographic Emerging Explorers grant in 2006. Stephon is also an accomplished tenor saxophonist.
On Tuesday, September 18, the Physics department welcomes Stephon Alexander back to campus to address Haverford's community of scientists on one of physics' most daunting problems, "Dark Energy".
And then on Wednesday, September 19, the entire campus community is invited to the Young Academic Alumni Lecture Series to hear Stephon reflect on his complicated relationship and struggles striving to become a theoretical physicist while pursuing a double life as a student of jazz. He will reflect on the common ideas and themes to these two seemingly unrelated crafts.
