Red Oak

#19 - Red Oak (Quercus rubra)

Unlike the White Oak and the Bur Oak which have leaves with smooth, rounded lobes, the Red Oak has bristle-tipped leaves with pointed lobes. It is an excellent tree for the home landscape because it transplants well, is tolerant of pollution and grows 60 to 75 feet tall. The girth of this particular tree gives a tantalizing hint of its age; the tree is considered the oldest on campus.
