Campus Visits
There's no better way to get a feel for college than by visiting, particularly while school is in session.
During various times of the year Haverford can offer you a student-led tour, an interview, a class visit, a trip to the bookstore and even lunch. High school seniors are welcome to stay overnight (when spots are available) and attend campus events. If you're interested in meeting a coach during your visit, you should contact a coach directly to make arrangements.
The Office of Admission is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday during the fall, winter, and spring, and from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday during the summer months (May 14, 2012 through Labor Day). We're also open from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturdays throughout much of the fall. August and October are the busiest visit months, so you'll have a smaller tour group and an easier time scheduling an interview if you can avoid those months.
To see what is happening on campus when you visit, please access the College events calendar.
For assistance with planning your trip, please contact http://campusphilly.org/, an online resource for those considering colleges in the Greater Philadelphia area. You may also go to our Visiting section for directions to campus and detailed information on where to stay and eat. View the campus map.
Tours
Please do not contact the Office of Admission to schedule a tour of campus; no appointment is necessary. Simply arrive by the scheduled tour time and a current student will guide you around campus. Tours leave from the Office of Admission in the Whitehead Campus Center, and are generally one hour and fifteen minutes in length. While we do offer one daily formal information session, we also have student hosts who are eager to talk with you, so please plan to arrive a few minutes early. Click here for a schedule of campus tours and information sessions.
Class Visits
Haverford College does not offer courses during the summer months. Class visits are available weekdays from late September through April when the college is in session. No appointment is necessary. After arriving, you may select a class from a list available at our reception desk.
Interviews
Because our application evaluation process is holistic and personal, we recommend that all applicants have an interview if possible. Like your application essay, an interview will provide an opportunity for us to hear more personally from you, and also affords a chance for you to ask any questions you may have about the College. You may have an interview on campus with a member of the admission staff or a Senior Interviewer (a highly trained Haverford student) or you may have an interview closer to home with one of our alumni volunteers. Each applicant may have only one interview, and interviews conducted by staff members, Senior Interviewers, and alumni volunteers are given equal weight in our evaluation process.
If you live within 150 miles of the Haverford campus (including New York City, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C.), we strongly recommend that you have an on-campus interview. Interviews are generally available beginning in the spring of your junior year through early January of your senior year. Please call (610) 896-1350 to schedule in advance; the earlier you call, the more likely a convenient interview slot will be available. As a high school senior, you may also schedule an overnight visit during certain periods of the school year; again, the earlier you contact us, the more likely a host will be available.
If you don’t live within 150 miles of campus, we still recommend that you interview on campus if you are able to visit. Otherwise, you can request an interview with an alumnus or alumna near your home. Students in New England should email Donna Manini; students in all other locations should email Adrienne Selinger. In your email, please be sure to include your full name, date of birth, home address and phone number, the name of your high school, and the name of the nearest large city to which you would be able to travel for the interview.
Whether or not you have an interview, you may do any of the following without making a prior appointment:
- Join an hour-long campus tour given by a student tour guide.
- Attend an hour-long information session given by an Admission officer.
- Have lunch in the student dining center.
- Visit a class.
- Explore on your own schedule. Our campus is open, and you can pick up a map and self-guided tour brochure at the Admissions Office.
Overnight Visits
Overnights during the fall semester are open to any current senior interested in getting a more in-depth look at Haverford. Overnights are offered on Monday through Thursday nights, beginning on Monday, September 17th. Arrangements should be made by completing this short survey. Please send in your request at least two weeks before your stay at Haverford. If you have not heard from Catherine or Sam 72 hours after filling out the survey, please e-mail them at fordovernight@gmail.com. Unfortunately, we are not able to host students during the week of October 15th as it is our fall break. Your visit will not be scheduled until after Catherine or Sam (our Overnight Coordinators) have confirmed the date and time you will arrive on campus. Please note that we will not be able to process your request to stay overnight until Tuesday, September 4th.
When you come to visit, we will provide meal tickets for you to eat in the dining hall. Please make sure to bring a sleeping bag, pillow, and a towel with you. Prior to any scheduled overnight visit, all students and their parent(s) and/or guardian(s) must review, sign, and fax or mail back to us this Overnight Permission Form. Our fax number is 610-896-1338, and our address is Haverford College Office of Admission, 370 Lancaster Avenue, Haverford, PA 19041.
Have a safe trip! We look forward to having you on campus.
