Thoughts on the three Academic Centers: “The academic centers offer Haverford students amazing resources, which allow us to pursue our education in ways I never imagined; summer internships, research with faculty members, and student-led, discussion-based seminars are some of the tangible manifestations of these opportunities. At the same time, the presence of these three unifying groups makes scholarship a focal point of the Haverford experience, emphasizing from day one the rigor and growth one experiences here.”
Thoughts on the Honor Code: “Haverford’s Honor Code made a huge impact on my decision to come here. Although I loved the conversations I had with students about the actual document, I quickly recognized, and continue to appreciate, the way in which the Honor Code is a central focus and also a reason for our tight-knit community. In many ways, the Code asks us to be aware and look out for each and every other member of the Haverford community. This process begins in the freshman Customs Groups, cementing a smaller group, but as you grow at Haverford, you realize that this commitment to people other than yourself extends beyond your freshman hall, beyond Haverford, and far into the wider world. This presents an exciting prospect which prepares Haverford students for life after college.”
Post-graduate Plans: “After graduating from Haverford, I hope to pursue my MD and Master of Public Health in order to work on public health initiatives both domestically and abroad. In the summer of 2007, I spent time at a birthing clinic on the U.S.-Mexican border in Weslaco, Texas. In this poor, mostly Spanish-speaking community I was made aware of the ways healthcare and social justice intersect—a connection I will explore in my future.”
