Why you chose Haverford: “I was immediately attracted to the openness of the Haverford community. When visiting the campus, I ran into some students who were preparing for the upcoming musical and they invited me to watch their rehearsal. I was struck by how friendly they were—the lead actress even came over to me during her break to introduce herself. Even though Haverford is a small school, I’m constantly surprised by the interesting people that I continue to meet. Just when you think you know everybody, you find someone new who you can’t believe you haven’t spoken to before.”
Favorite Class: “My favorite class was Psychology of Language. I most enjoyed exploring the degree to which language and thought influence each other through a combination of psychological and cultural factors such as gender, race, and socioeconomic status. The applicability of this class confirmed for me that I wanted to be a Psychology major. I think it aptly represents Haverford’s perspective that academics and society are inevitably intertwined.”
Favorite Extra Curricular Activity: “Directing Neil Simon’s comedy Rumors the second semester of my sophomore year was an experience that was daunting, but incredibly rewarding. The support that I received throughout the community—from administrators to students eager to support their classmates—reinforced for me Haverford’s focus and trust in the individual student. We produced the play independently of any theater program, and in doing so we were allowed freedom, both in terms of artistic expression and by having the opportunity to learn through experience.”
