Required Virus Protection at HaverfordA computer virus is a computer program which attaches to programs or documents, and then copies itself into more programs or documents. Some viruses do nothing more than copy themselves, but many can slow your system to a crawl, damage or destroy files, capture sensitive information, or prevent you from starting your system. Even if a virus does not seem to have adverse effects on your system it may create serious problems for another system or Haverford's network. ACC requires you to install specially configured anti-virus software on Windows and Macintosh computers. This software is configured to automatically install updates and to detect viruses as they enter your system. Failure to install Haverford's anti-virus software may lead to loss of network privileges. In addition to installing the software, it is your responsibility to adhere to all other recommended practices to Protect your Computer. This includes keeping your system up-to-date with current virus definitions, scanning your computer regularly, and to following the instruction in all alerts sent by the Computing Center. |
