DATE: Thursday, June 14
TIME: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
PLACE: Stokes 004
INSTRUCTOR: Sharon Strauss, Academic Computing

The Blackboard gradebook tool set can help you manage and assess your students' work in a variety of ways. In addition to helping you administer and grade tests, the Blackboard gradebook tools can help you to collect and manage written assignments, grade discussion board posts or threads, enable your students to track their grades, and provide individualized feedback to each student. You can also save your test pools and share them with other instructors using Blackboard to teach the same or similar content. You will leave this workshop understanding of the varied uses of the gradebook, as well as its benefits and drawbacks.

Who should attend? This workshop is best suited for instructors currently using Blackboard, who want to learn about some of Blackboard's course management and student feedback tools. Experience with Blackboard is helpful, but not required.

Who should attend? This is for those who are already familiar with PowerPoint and want to learn how to enhance their slide shows. A similar Macintosh version of this workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, May 30. Concepts are the same in the Macintosh and Windows workshops, but software mechanics vary slightly.

DIGITAL VIDEO PRODUCTION ON THE MACINTOSH WITH iMOVIE

Registration is closed

DATES: Tuesday, July 17 and Wednesday, July 18
TIME: 9:00PM - 4:30 PM (lunch included)
PLACE: Stokes 205 (Language Learning Center)
INSTRUCTOR: Bret Olsen, NITLE

Digital video production centers on two key elements: videography and digital video editing. Participants will gain a firm understanding of what it takes to produce usable raw video footage, including the necessary equipment. Examples of common mistakes and ways to avoid them will be included.

There will be time for participants to shoot video and engage in group critique of the footage. Then, with the footage they have shot, participants will learn to capture, edit, and compress video for pedagogical use with iMovie. Different delivery methods will be covered (i.e. web delivery, DVD, output to VHS). There will be a discussion of other capture applications and digital video issues.

This workshop is conducted through NITLE, a non-profit initiative dedicated to promoting liberal education. We expect to have visitors from other NITLE participating colleges attending.

Who should attend? This workshop is an introductory class for those interested in creating their own videos.

DIGITAL VIDEO PRODUCTION ON THE MACINTOSH WITH FINAL CUT EXPRESS

Registration is closed

DATES: Thursday, July 19*
TIME: 9:00PM - 4:30 PM (lunch included)
PLACE: Stokes 205 (Language Learning Center)
INSTRUCTOR: Bret Olsen, NITLE

While tools such as iMovie make movie-making easy for any user, Final Cut is for users who need more control in their video editing. This product, which has been used to edit feature films, allows users to complete complex digital video projects with a robust digital video editing technology. The introduction to Final Cut video editing covers basic digital video concepts, logging and capture techniques, basic editing, titling, and compression for web delivery or output back to tape. Participants will leave with the skills necessary to use Final Cut for producing quality digital video for use on the liberal arts campus.

This workshop is conducted through NITLE, a non-profit initiative dedicated to promoting liberal education. We expect to have visitors from other NITLE participating colleges attending.

Who should attend? This workshop is for those who already have a basic familiarity with a video editing application (e.g., iMovie, MovieMaker, Premiere).

*Those who attend this workshop may also attend the videography portion of the iMovie workshop on July 17. If you wish to do this, please note your plan to attend July 17 in the comments.
