Install and Configure Email Clients
-- General Instructions for POP
These instructions are for those configuring email clients with the POP protocol. However, most users will prefer the IMAP protocol, which provides better support for accessing email from multiple locations.
We suspect that many POP users are also Eudora users. We are now phasing out support for Eudora. However, we continue to provide these instructions for those who need them.
If you are familiar with mail clients, or you are using another mail client, general instructions are as follows:
- Download and install your mail program. Thunderbird is available at
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/
- Use the following
user name and server configuration settings:
Your name: Enter
your full name. (e.g. Jane
User) Email Address:
username@haverford.edu (e.g.
juser@haverford.edu)
Login name: username
(e.g. juser) Incoming
Mail Server (a.k.a. Mail server):
pop.haverford.edu Outgoing
Mail Server (a.k.a. SMTP server):
smtp.haverford.edu |
- Configure your mail program for Post Office Protocol (POP) with Secure Socket Layer (SSL). has configuration instructions for many popular mail clients.
- Configure your program to leave mail on server for five days. This is especially important if you read email on several
computers or on other devices (such
as a handheld organizer, or a cell
phone). Manage
Email on Multiple Computers details how to configure to download enough, but not too much, email.
