Dell offers many lines of desktop
and notebook computers. We like
the Latitude laptops and Optiplex
desktops because they work well
in our computing
environment. The information below
will help you select options and
components for your new Dell computer.
Please follow these guidelines
so that you can be confident that
your computer will function properly
here at Haverford.
IMPORTANT! To
be eligible for the academic discount
you may need to provide Dell with
proof that you are a student, faculty

proof include your Haverford ID

Dell
Latitude D630 or D830 Laptop--Recommended
for Most Windows Users
|
We recommend the
Latitude D630 or the Latitude
D830 for
most students who prefer
a Windows system. It has
a good balance of features
for the cost.
The D630 has a more portable
14" screen.
The D820 has a more readable
15" screen and cost about $100 more.
Otherwise the computers are
very similar. |

Dell
Optiplex 755--Recommended
Windows Users who Prefer a Desktop
System
 |
We suggest the OptiPlex
755 for Windows
users who want a desktop
system. Many students
like the small form factor
model because they have limited
desk space. However, a larger
form factor may save you
money on components similar
to those below, or enable
a greater variety of upgrade
options. |

Recommended Printers
Although printing is available
in the computing labs and libraries
on campus, some students like the
convenience of a personal printer. ACC
does not have a specific printer
recommendation. Both Apple and
Dell offer printer options with
their systems, often at promotional
pricing. If you wish to look at
some options before buying, you
may prefer to get your printer
at a local office supply or computer
store.
Order a cable with your
printer! Cables are
not usually included. Ask
your printer vendor which cable
you need. There are several different
types and they are not interchangeable.
