Recommended PC Models for Haverford Faculty and Academic Staff Computers

The configurations below are recommended for most faculty and academic staff buying an office computer. Pricing below is for institutional purchases only! Students, faculty, or staff looking for a home computer have different pricing and ordering requirements.

• Tenure-track and regular part-time faculty members are eligible for a College Provided Computer. Please contact Academic Computing for consultation and to place your order. You may select either the recommended desktop or laptop described below, or a similarly configured Macintosh. Your support liaison can help you select a system.
• Departmentally funded and grant funded computers also qualify for institutional pricing. The configurations suggested below are good general purpose systems. However, we can order most Dell products at our institutional discount. We charge $150 for shipping and software licensing, above the institutional price quoted on the Dell web site. We will be happy to help you select an appropriate system for your needs. Please contact your support liaison for details or to place an order.

OptiPlex 760 Small Form Factor We recommend the OptiPlex 760 Small Form Factor Base Up to 88 Percent Efficient PSU for those faculty members and academic staff who rarely require portable computing. It offers a larger screen and more disk space than the standard laptop.

Dell Latitude E6400 or E6500 Black Many faculty members select the laptop for its portability, allowing them to use their own computer for classroom and conference presentations. The Dell Latitude E6400 or E6500 are our current recommended laptop computers. Select the E6400 if you want a lighter computer, and are willing to have a smaller 14" screen. The E6500 has a larger 15" screen, but weighs more.
