New Automated Email System Messages for Too Much Email

The message below was originally sent to all Haverford community members on Monday, February 23rd at approximately 4:15 PM.

To: All Haverford Community Members
From: Networking & Systems, College Information Resources
Subject: New Automated Email System Messages for Too Much Emai

Beginning on Tuesday, February 24th, the computing center will send automated notices to Haverford email account holders who have accumulated too much email on the mail server. These notices will remind community members with over 200 mb of mail on the email system to take action before it impacts their ability to collect or view their email.

Though the computing center will not prevent messages from being delivered to accounts, we are implementing these new features to encourage users with too much mail to take action before they have difficulty accessing their email. The automated email notices, similar to the sample below, directs users to a secure page on the Haverford website. This page instructs users on how to manage their account and access the tool to calculate the current size of their inbox : https://www.haverford.edu/acc/serverinbox. In addition, we will be implementing a traffic light graphic on SquirrelMail that shows approximately how much mail you have on the system.

If you have any questions about the server inbox notification process or need ssistance managing your mail, please contact the Help Desk:

Telephone: 610-896-1480
Email: helpdesk@haverford.edu

ACC EMAIL POLICY:
----------------------------------
ACC will never ask for your passwords in email, or email you an attachment or executable file. If we ask you to install something, we will refer you to a secure HTTPS web page on our site. That way, you know you are downloading a safe file from us.

Subject: Important Information about Your Email Account "juser@haverford.edu" (automated message)

Dear account owner of juser@haverford.edu,

You have received this automated message because your email server inbox, which is associated with your Haverford College email account, has too much mail. The Haverford College Help Desk suggests you take action now to prevent future problems that could impact your ability to collect or view your email.

Server inboxes with too much mail can cause problems, such as slowness downloading your email or difficulty logging into SquirrelMail. We suspect your server inbox may have become this large because it is not being managed efficiently; either your mail client (such as Thunderbird, Outlook, or Eudora) is not properly configured, or you are reading your mail exclusively through SquirrelMail and would benefit from better managing your email.

For instructions on how to manage your account and access the tool to calculate the current size of your inbox, use the secure link to the Haverford College web site: https://www.haverford.edu/acc/serverinbox.

We recommend that you take action now to prevent problems collecting your email messages. If you have a question or concern about this notice, please contact the Help Desk:

Telephone: 610-896-1480
Email: helpdesk@haverford.edu

PLEASE NOTE: This message was generated based upon email usage as per DATE TIME. Your usage patterns may have changed since this automated message was generated.
