Subject: Reminder to Please Request VPN Account if Web Publishing Off Campus

Please remember that on or after Tuesday, June 17th, VPN connections will be required for FTP access to Storage and Webpublish from off-campus. If you only publish web pages on-campus, you will not be affected by this change. Additionally, other methods of publishing web pages from off-campus already require VPN and are not affected. See our community notice from May 30th for full details on who is impacted by this change.

Don't worry. If you don't already have a VPN account, there is still time to request one at: http://www.haverford.edu/acc/vpn/download/vpn_request_form.htm

Subject: Please Request VPN Account if Web Publishing Off Campus

Dear Haverford Community Member,

To help protect your Haverford email user name and password and the college web servers, College Information Resources (CIR) is making changes which will affect the way off-campus users access Storage.haverford.edu and Webpublish.haverford.edu. After Tuesday, June 17th, VPN connections will be required in order to FTP from outside the campus network to these servers.

What is FTP?
FTP, File Transfer Protocol, is one of the means by which users transfer data to and from the Storage and Webpublish servers.

Who does this effect?
- Off-campus users, who use FTP to publish to a personal or student group "public_web" folder on Storage.haverford.edu (a.k.a. students.haverford.edu or people.haverford.edu). This includes those who publish via FTP in Dreamweaver or Contribute.
- Off-campus users who use FTP to publish to the college web site (www.haverford.edu) using Webpublish. This includes those who publish via the FTP in Dreamweaver or Contribute.

If you only work on campus, you will not be affected by this change. Additionally, other methods of publishing web pages from off-campus already require VPN and are not affected.

What do I have to do?
When off-campus, establish a VPN connection before attempting an FTP connection with these servers.

How do I get a VPN Account?
If you do not already have a VPN account, you will need to request one using this form: http://www.haverford.edu/acc/vpn/download/vpn_request_form.htm. Once you have submitted your VPN account request, it will take 3-5 business days for the account to be created. When your account information is ready for pickup, an email notice will be sent to you. If you are unable to pick up your VPN account information, we can send it to you by postal mail or release it to you over the phone. For security reasons, VPN account information cannot be sent via email.

If you have a question or concern about this notice, please contact your computing support liaisons.
