Winter Break Service Interruptions -- Friday, Jan. 4 & Tuesday, Jan. 8

The message below was originally sent to all Haverford community members on Thursday, December 20th at approximately 1:45 PM.

Subject: Service Interruptions on Jan. 4 & Jan. 8

In order to keep our infrastructure up-to-date, Networking & Systems has scheduled service interruptions during winter break. Network, disk, and server upgrades will impact the following services:

WEBPUBLISH SERVER:
Friday Jan. 4 at 6:00 PM to Saturday Jan. 5 at 6:00 AM
From Friday, January 4th at 6:00 PM to Saturday, January 5th at 6:00 AM, the Webpublish server will be temporarily unavailable while we perform disk and software maintenance on webpublish.haverford.edu. The college web site, www.haverford.edu, will continue to serve pages throughout the service interruption.

During this interruption, web content creators will be unable to post changes on the college web site. In addition, individual and student group profiles on the college website will be unavailable for changes. The website management tool (/manage), used by privileged web publishers, will also be unavailable.

STORAGE SERVER:
Friday Jan. 4 at 6:00 PM to Saturday Jan. 5 at 6:00 AM
From Friday, January 4th at 6:00 PM to Saturday, January 5th at 6:00 AM, the Storage Server will be unavailable while we perform disk and software maintenance on storage.haverford.edu.

STREAM SERVER:
Friday Jan. 4 at 6:00 PM to Saturday Jan. 5 at 6:00 AM
From Friday, January 4th at 6:00 PM to Saturday, January 5th at 6:00 AM, the Real Networks streaming server (stream.haverford.edu) will be unavailable.

ADVANCED WEB PUBLISHING PLATFORM:
Friday Jan. 4 at 11:00 PM to Saturday Jan. 5 at 1:00 AM
From Friday, January 4th at 11:00 PM to Saturday, January 5th at 1:00 AM, there will be several short interruptions in service to websites on our advanced web publishing platform managed by Control Panel; this includes sites with the domain name live.haveford.edu or people.haverford.edu, and other selected sites.

EMAIL SERVICE:
Friday Jan. 4 at 11:00 PM to Saturday Jan. 5 at 1:00 AM
From Friday, January 4th at 11:00 PM to Saturday, January 5th at 1:00 AM, all email services including webmail will be unavailable while maintenance is performed on the network infrastructure used by our email servers. Mail sent to you during the interruptions will be queued and delivered when mail service is restored

STORAGE SERVER, Only Affecting Users folders D through J:
Tuesday, Jan. 8 from Noon to 8 PM
On Tuesday, January 8th from noon to 8:00 PM, specific areas of the Storage Server will be unavailable while we perform maintenance to help us better balance demands for disk space. During the interruption, folders D through J in the Users folder will be unavailable. All other folders on the Storage Server will be unaffected by the maintenance, including departmental folders.

Alternate Access Methods for Storage and Webpublish
If you need access to files on the Storage and Webpublish servers during the service interruptions described above, read-only access will be available using alt.haverford.edu. Access instructions for alt.haverford.edu and tips for managing your files during scheduled maintenance periods are available at: http://www.haverford.edu/acc/network/alt/.
