Subject: Junk Mail Protection: Message Center Enabled
Date: August 23, 2006

The new junk mail protection service described in my previous message was activated early this morning. Your Message Center is now available and spam sent to your email account is currently being filtered and quarantined. Message Center access instructions and documentation are available on the Academic Computing web site using http://www.haverford.edu/acc/messagecenter/. You may review your quarantined messages at any time using your Message Center.

Beginning on Thursday morning, you will receive a daily email summary which lists the messages that have been quarantined in your Message Center during the previous day. You can identify this message digest in your inbox by the following headers:

Subject:   Quarantine Summary  date time
From:  Haverford College Message Center

It is a good practise to review your quarantined messages; however, you don't have to take action unless you want to deliver a quarantined message to your inbox. Your junk messages will be automatically deleted after two weeks. If you read email using Eudora on a Macintosh, to best view the daily quarantine summary, select "Open in Browser" from Eudora's "File" menu. Read http://www.haverford.edu/acc/messagecenter/quarantine.html#viewing for further viewing tips.

Please feel free to contact me or your computing support liaison if you have any questions.

Subject: Introduction of New Junk Mail Protection Service
Date: August 16, 2006

In response to increasing volumes of spam, College Information Resources will implement a new system designed to fight junk mail on Wednesday, August 23rd.

The new service is effective because unwanted and potentially harmful messages will be diverted, quarantined at your Message Center, and automatically deleted after two weeks. This will allow you to freely read your legitimate messages without spam clogging your inbox. You can review junk messages that have been held for you using your web-based Message Center or by reading a daily email summary. The Message Center allows you to customize email filtering and will be enabled for you by default, however you may disable it at any time.

This new spam fighting solution is hosted by McAfee, one of the industry's leading security vendors, and has been jointly researched and purchased by our tricollege consortium. This premier service provides more sophisticated junk detection and filtering than the open source solutions that have been used on our campus to date.

You may review the Message Center User Guide (http://www.haverford.edu/acc/messagecenter/).
