Account Access and Privacy

Academic Computing respects the importance and privacy of your computer accounts. These accounts house your email, web pages, and other files. However, on rare occasions we may need to view the contents of your account or restrict access to your accounts.

ACC may review the contents of your accounts or UNIX files for any of the following reasons:

  • You ask us for help resolving a problem or have a question about your accounts
  • We suspect someone other than you has tampered with your computer accounts
  • We suspect you have tampered with our computer systems
  • Your account seems to be causing problems for others using our system. This could be unintentional or the result of a computer problem rather than malicious activity.

After a preliminary investigation of a problem, we reserve the right to restrict access to the network connection in your dorm or any of your computer accounts. If we do this, or suspect a need to do this, we will contact you as soon as possible and invite you to talk with us. We will then work with you and with the appropriate parties on campus to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and restore access to the network and your accounts. In cases of severe misconduct, upon request of the Deans Office or Honor Council, we may terminate your access to the network or your accounts.

For Questions and Comments, contact Haverford College's Academic Computing Center.
