Managing Email While AwayWebmail

Managing Email While AwayAre you leaving campus for a while? If so, you may want to change the way you read mail. Webmail users can continue to read mail as usual. However, you can also forward mail to another account or (in some cases) set your computer up to continue using your Haverford with a desktop client. Of course, you can also spend some time away from email and set a message that you are not reading it. Option #1: Use WebmailWebmail users can work off-campus, just as you do on-campus. In some case, you may notice decreased performance, but it is not usually an issue. Go to mail.haverford.edu. Option #2: Forward Email to Another AccountWhile away, you may wish to use an email account given by your local university or other internet service provider. If so, you may find it convenient to forward Haverford email to that account. When you return to campus, remember to cancel your forward. NOTE: ACC only supports Haverford accounts. Thus, you must work with your new email service provider, should you need help with that account. Option #3: Configure Using Your Haverford Account With Your Desktop ClientWhile away, you can sometimes (but not always) continue to use your regular desktop client, such as Thunderbird, with your existing Haverford email if you make some minor changes to your email settings. See Sending Email From Off-Campus Option #4: Set an Away Message if You Won't Read Your EmailIn these email-centric times, there is an expectation that you will read and answer your email daily. If you don't plan on reading email regularly while away, it is polite to set a message alerting others to this. Mail will accumulate in your inbox until you are ready and able to access it. Set an Away Message and remember to cancel the away message when you get back on campus. |
