Changing Your Computer Passwords

The Academic Computing Center requests you change each of your passwords when you first log on to a system.

Good passwords cannot be easily guessed - they contain at least 8 characters and should include both numbers and letters. They should not be dictionary words or identifying names. Remember, your passwords are case-sensitive, so take note whether you use lower or upper case letters when you create them.

These passwords allow access to computing services that are provided solely for your use; do not share your passwords with anyone!

Email (Eudora/Webmail/Storage/WebPublish)

All Haverford students, faculty and staff get an email account. This email account is used to access many resources in addition to email, including the Storage server, the WebPublish server, Haverford course enrollment lists, and the student web server.

Change your Eudora/Email password now.

Windows Logon

Haverford faculty and academic staff are given a Windows Login. This account lets you print to networked printers.

From a Macintosh

You cannot change your Windows Logon from a Macintosh. Find a Windows computer and follow the instructions below.

From Windows XP

  1. Press the Ctrl-Alt-Del keys simultaneously
  2. Select the Change Password... button and follow the on-screen instructions

From Windows 98/ME

You can change your Windows Networking password as long as you know your current password. Follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Start button, select Settings and then Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel window, locate the Passwords icon and double-click on it.
  3. A window labeled Passwords Properties should appear. Click the tab labeled Change Passwords, then click the button labeled Change Other Passwords.
  4. When the window labeled Select Password appears (as below), select Microsoft Networking and click the button labeled Change…

  1. The Change Password window should appear (see below). Enter your old password and then type your new password twice. Click OK to record your new password.

If you entered your old password correctly and spelled your new password identically in the second and third text fields, Windows will give you a confirmation message stating "The password has been successfully changed". Click OK to finish.
