Frequently Asked Questions

Install and Use VPN Client for Windows 98, ME, or 2000

This client is provided as a courtesy to those running legacy versions of Windows. We suggest you upgrade to XP or Vista. Your OS is no longer supported.

  1. Download the Cisco VPN client installer for Windows 98/ME/2000. You will need to use your full email address to access the software folder.
  2. Install the VPN client by double clicking on the VPN98.exe icon that you downloaded.
    • During the installation process, you may see a warning dialogue more than once that the Deterministic Network Enhancer Miniport has not passed Windows Logo testing. Click Continue Anyway to complete the installation.
    • When the installation in done, click Finish to restart your system when prompted.

You are now ready to connect to the campus network using VPN.

Use your Windows VPN Client Software

  1. Verify that you are connected to your broadband network while off-campus, or that you can get a signal from the wireless hotspot on-campus.

    Note: When using VPN off-campus you must already be connected to the internet through broadband. For some users, this may require connecting to their network with a different name and password.

  2. After launching the VPN dialer, select the appropriate profile in the Connection Entry window (hcvpn for off-campus, wireless while on-campus).
  3. Click on the Connect button to initiate the VPN connection.

  5. Enter the appropriate user ID and password at the login prompt.
    • If you are connecting through a broadband network, enter the VPN user id (net-username) and the VPN password that was provided to you.
    • If you are connecting to Haverford's network through a wireless computer, enter your Haverford or Bryn Mawr email username and password (Brynmawr users must enter username@brynmawr.edu and their BMC email password).
  6. Once you have connected successfully, you will see a confirmation screen. Click Continue to complete your connection to the network. You now have access to all Haverford resources, email, network servers, and keyserved applications.
  7. To disconnect, double click on the VPN icon in your system tray, on the lower-right corner of your screen. A window will appear. Click on the Disconnect button to terminate your VPN connection.
