Install and use VPN on your Macintosh OS X

Download and Install VPN Client for Macintosh OS X

  1. You must install the correct VPN software version for your operating system. If you are not sure which version of Mac OS X you use, see About This Mac. All VPN clients for Mac OS X require OS X Version 10.3 or later.
  2. Download the appropriate Cisco VPN client installer for your Macintosh. If you are downloading a client from off-campus, you must use your full email address to access the software.
  3. Install the Cisco VPN client.

You are now ready to connect to the campus network using VPN.

Use your Macintosh VPN Client Software

  1. Verify that you are connected to your broadband network while off-campus, or that you can get a signal from the wireless hotspot on-campus.
  2. Launch the VPN Client application by clicking on the VPN icon in your dock or on the desktop.

  3. A connection window will appear. Select the appropriate profile under Connection Entry (hcvpn for off-campus with library access, hcvpn_no_library_databases for faster off-campus access with no library databases access, or wireless while on-campus).

  4. Enter the appropriate user ID and password at the login prompt.
    • If you are connecting through a broadband network, enter the VPN user id (net-username) and the VPN password that was provided to you.
    • If you are connecting to Haverford's network through a wireless computer, enter your Haverford or Bryn Mawr email username and password. (Brynmawr users must enter username@brynmawr.edu and their BMC email password.) Click OK.
  5. When your password is accepted, you will see a welcome message. Click Continue to complete the login process.
  6. When the connection is successful, you will see the VPN icon to the left of the connection entry. You can minimize the VPN Client application to the dock and use the network as you would normally. You now have access to all Haverford resources, email, network servers, and keyserved applications.
  7. When you have finished using the campus network, restore the VPN Client window from the dock, and click on the Disconnect button at the top left portion of the window to close your VPN connection.
