ADMINISTRATIVE Staff: If you use a computer at HOME, please read on.

STUDENTS, FACULTY, ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF, ACADEMIC STAFF AND ALL HOME USERS must follow the recommendations below.

I. OVERVIEW

Apple has released several critical security patches for the Mac OS X operating system. Installing these patches, and the latest Virex definitions, will help address problems identified in the Alert sent by ACC on February 27, 2006. (http://www.haverford.edu/acc/bulletins/022706.html)

II. WHO IS AFFECTED?

All Mac OS X users are affected and must apply these critical security updates..

III. RECOMMENDED ACTION - ADMINISTRATIVE USERS ON CAMPUS

Please follow the recommended action for home systems.

IV. RECOMMENDED ACTION - ACADEMIC WINDOWS USERS and ALL HOME WINDOWS USERS

No immediate action is needed for this alert. However, if your computer is not automatically receiving critical updates, see http://www.haverford.edu/acc/docs/general/osupdates.html for instructions on how to set up your computer to automatically notify you and install Microsoft updates as they are released.

V. RECOMMENDED ACTION - ACADEMIC MAC USERS and ALL HOME MAC USERS

  1. From the Apple menu, run Software Update.

  2. Apply all current security updates.

  3. Confirm that your computer is getting updates automatically. See http://www.haverford.edu/acc/docs/general/osupdates.html#OSX for instructions.

Also, confirm that you have Virex installed with the current March 2 Virex definitions. Open Virex (from your application folder) and click on eUpdate. See http://www.haverford.edu/acc/virus/macantivirus.html for details.
