2009: Hip Hop and Social Justice

AcadeMIX (pronounced "academics") is an annual exploration of hip hop. Each spring at Haverford College, students invite academics, performers, activists, artists, and agents to campus for discussions and performances. In 2008, with much help, coordination, and determination from professor Maria McMath and a group of students, Haverford held the first such event with a focus on International Hip Hop. This year, the second annual AcadeMIX Hip Hop Symposium, the committee has invited our guests to explore the history, connections, and intersections of hip hop and social justice.
