The discourse concerning Spain's Muslims and their descendants: the Moor as other (sensual, fanatical or exemplary but flawed) and as a metaphor of power, from the Christian Reconquest and the expulsion of the Moriscos to Juan Goytisolo's Reivindicación del conde don Julián. This course fulfills the pre 1898 requirement.
Prerequisites: A 200-level course or consent of the instructor.
