How does musical notation work, and what does attempt to represent? We will learn about how music writing has changed over time, and the sorts of questions that scholars must consider as they prepare new scores for performers. Students will learn about editorial philosophies, notational practices, encoding, visualization, and scholarly collaboration.
Prerequisites: Some previous knowledge of musical notation.
