A lecture course with laboratory emphasizing current knowledge in cell biology. Among topics discussed are cell membranes, cell surface specializations, cell motility and the cytoskeleton, regulation of cell activity and cell signaling. Laboratory experiments are focused on studies of cell structure, making use of techniques in cell culture and immunocytochemistry. Lecture three hours, laboratory four hours a week. Prerequisites: One semester of Organic Chemistry (CHEM B211/B212), and BIOL B201 or B271, or permission of instructor. Haverford: Natural Science (NA)
