We examine the concepts of sex and gender from from a sociological perspective. In the first part of the course, we examine different perspectives on gender, with a particular focus on the social constructionist view. We also explore concepts of feminist epistemology, femininity and masculinity, herernormativity, and intersectionality. In the second part of the course, we focus on gender and inequality within the institutions of family, work, and politics. Prerequisite: one social science course. Haverford: Social Science (SO)
